 Meeting Report

 Third Quarter Comments

As we near the end of the 3rd quarter, I thought it might be appropriate to discuss what is going on with our club. In terms of potential members with what is in the hopper, we are nearing 40 members. There are a few others and I know that there can be even more. The more the better for the business of our Rotary. Your sponsorship of new members only helps & it is a great way for you to show that you feel strongly about what our club is doing.

We have given generously to Dan Nalven's Gift of Life Program and many of us attended his fete earlier in the Quarter. It was a good stand up event for our club with Eastchester's Interact giving as well ourselves.

Jeannine Pirro, Westchester County District Attorney, was a guest speaker for us, as well as, many others including most recently our St. Patrick's week with Rotarian Mike McBride and Joe O'Brien.

Meals on Wheels still progresses. The Gazebo appears to be falling into place. Most importantly, we hopefully will help Fr. Joseph Emmanuel with Sri Lanka. This is very important.

We are in the top 10% of the District's giving to Rotary International. We can be proud to look back and say we have had a good year. We're not like Mark McGwire! We can look back! Hey! "We ain't on no steroids!"

The future looks pretty good. We have some good Speakers. Our Tea is coming. We look forward to a large gathering.

March 31st - we are going to see Bye Bye Birdie at the Westchester Broadway Theatre.

Finally, on April 29th - Dr. Paul Muscolino will be honored at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains, NY. Dr. Muscolino will be receiving the Paul Harris award.

The Club grows because all of you. Keep up the great effort!!!

 Potential New Members!!

The following applicants have gone through orientation with David Walker. If there are any concerns please express them to Joe Comizio, David Walker, or Mike Fix.

  • Kevin Gagliardi of Verizon Communications, sponsored by Nancy & Ron Ten Eyck.
  • Jim Scalise, from lawfirm Getman, Lyder & Scalise LLP, sponsored by Mike Fix.
  • Pete Bonhag, Superintendent of the Department of Public Works, sponsored by Gary DelVecchio.
  • Guido Cicchetti of Westchester Funeral Home, sponsored by Alan Benedict.
  • Phyllis Rothschild, Guidance Counselor Eastchester High School, sponsored by Tony Fusco.
Thanks to all of the sponsors. The effort to build our Club is important and so if any of you have any other great candidates, please ask for a membership application from the Board.

This is an important and reflective time of the year for all of us. Give yourself some solitude and time to be pensive to reorient your life. Hopefully, Rotary can be part of it. Rotary is going in the right direction.

Kim Gaver

Kim is our most recent member of the Eastchester Rotary and brings youth and an ability to help the club in many areas. She is recently married, works for our Dr. Joseph Comizio, is a graduate of Western Michigan and has interests in the area of dance, hiking, and the outdoors.

 Event News

April 25th
Sports Event Fundraising Committee will have an organizational meeting at JR's at 6:00pm. Events include: Softball, Golf, and Tennis.

April 27th
Peter Bertine, retired Partner of Bertine Houghnagel will talk to us Team Training in the effort to help the Leukemia Foundation. Peter was to have been our speaker two weeks ago, but bowed to Dan Nalven’s great program on the Gift of Life People who were here from Uganda.

April 29th
The Paul Harris Luncheon will be held at the Crown Plaza at noon. Our Honoree this year is Paul Muscolino. Please make an effort to come. We have a table plus a couple of others. Paul has given us great programs over the years and his efforts are being recognized on Friday.

April 29th
The Bronxville Women’s Club is honoring our Vicki Ford, who organized and set up the Eastchester Citizen Corps. Vicki’s efforts have made it better for all of us in the event of a major disaster in Eastchester. Hats off to her for being a wonderful citizen in town.

April 30th
Our Boy Scouts will be in the park for a spring clean up. They will start around 1pm. Hope you can stop off to say hello. There will probably be one more day after that and we will keep you posted. The Gazebo is on the way from the factory. When it arrives we will have an inauguration for it.

May 15th
The Tea is not for Two, but for all of You!!!     To participate!!!
Thanks to Bunny's ingenuity from last year, our Tea was a wonderful program. This year the Tea will come off because of the leadership of Nancy & Elena. This year, we should double our profits because we have all the dishes. However, to expect the girls to do this would be unfair. We need everyone's help. We need to setup the tables and chairs. We also need people to clean up afterwards. The preparation of the sandwiches the night before takes a little time. For those of us who participated in it last year, we all felt terrific after. So please give your time to Nancy & Elena. If we all participate, we will do fine. So, help with the setup, take down, and start talking about the event. Good eats, good silent auction items, and prizes. Date is May 15th at the Tuckahoe Community Center.
